Get ready to play with Lensbaby

Mama? Congratulations! It’s a Lensbaby. This is how the products of Lensbaby Inc., a company founded in 2004 by Craig Strong, meet their buyers. The company manufactures DSLR and mirrorless camera lenses, but not just any kind of lenses.

The aim of Craig Strong, a professional photographer himself, was to help photographers see in a new way. He created lenses that can be moved, twisted, bent. Lensbaby Inc. products deliver special effects and allow you an infinite creativity. The photographs are encouraged to be imperfect, blurred, unfocused. Anything is possible when you have a Lensbaby.

Technical Agenda

The major principle for these lenses is to focus on a small area of the picture and gradually blur everything else. With Lensbaby Muse, for example, the focus is obtained by compressing and moving the front part of the lens. Lensbaby Muse is a fixed 50 mm lens, with an aperture range between f/2 and f/8 (discs are included, but you have to manually change them in order to change the aperture). Lensbaby Composer goes even further and allows the movement of the focus area by placing a ball inside the lens. Yes, it can be that much fun, like playing with a ball. Both Muse and Composer focus on a round area. But there are versions of Composer (the Edge series) that slice focus from side-to-side. Imagine a diagonal in focus and everything else in a blur. With Lensbaby, you just have to imagine.

All Lensbaby lenses are small and very light. You can choose from a variety of models, including 35 mm, 50 mm, 60 mm, and 80 mm lens, fisheye, and many other. Lensbaby lenses can be used with Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Fuji, Sony or other cameras. There are even special lenses for mobiles. You can also choose between a lot of accessories.

Where to use a Lensbaby

Everywhere! These lenses are great for portraits because they give a romantic air. But you can use them anywhere you like to tell a story of a person or an object. A Lensbaby picture is like a painting, with mixing colors, imperfections, and depth.

In object photography or commercial photography, Lensbaby can achieve a playful space and an extremely good focus on your object.

You can also use these lenses when you want to hide something from the neighborhood. Blur is the perfect mask. This will save you a lot of time in post-processing.

How much does it cost?

The lenses start from 90$ and can reach 700$ – 800$. Most of the models have a price around 200$ – 300$. Still, the fun is priceless.
